We Have Been Awarded!!

In 2016, someone with an idea, little knowledge of Blogging, but very determined to create a Blogging platform decided to take the risk of the unknown. That is exactly how I would describe becoming a Blogger.

Fast forward to almost 5 years of consistent work, dedication, and networking. I am humbled to behave recognition out of the US as a Blogger, based in the Caribbean. Blogging in combination with my profession as a Marketer and Brand Strategist has opened so many doors for me, that I will be forever grateful for.

On Saturday, September 12th, 2020, I had the privilege of not only being a panelist on “Size Overrated Magazine, “You Hold The Power Virtual Conference”, but I was also awarded for using my blogger’s platform as an outlet to empower and educate women all over the world.

Size Overrated Empowerment Conference reflects the mission for Size Overrated Magazine which is to empower and uplift people about how they view themselves mentally, and physically. “I want the conference to be uplifting and provide valuable resources to our guests so they can leave with the tools to be productive and be the best version of themselves. The conference is also a time to honor those who are doing great things in their communities, as well as have a great time, unwind, connect and network with like-minded people. This year’s theme was “You Hold the Power,” and I chose this theme because at times we forget our worth and how strong we are. This year with COVID-19 we were tested in many ways. A lot of things were out of our control. At the end of the day, the test was: do we stop, or do we persevere, push through, and take the detour to accomplish what we were set out to do. This test shows how strong we are. So here is to our 4th year doing the conference and we look forward too many more” says Ariel King – Cary CEO and Editor in Chief at Size Overrated Magazine.

The event and award ceremony took place virtually via Zoom and with a very small ceremony at the Philipsburg Cultural Center. During this celebration at the Cultural Center, close friends, and contributors, were able to share my blogging journey and the impact that it has had on women. I think even though I was not able to physically be in Virginia to receive this award, it was important to document and celebrate it, after all, it is not every day that you receive an international award.

We enjoyed powerful speakers, a discussion panel, Recognition Awards Ceremony, DJ, bar, vendors, prizes, giveaways, and much more. The first 100 women received a complimentary entrance, and believe me they were not disappointed.

I would like to thank our partners, for ensuring that we had Piper-Heidsieck to help us toast to this memorable occasion ( Piper-Heidsieck is a Champagne house founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck on July 16, 1785, in Reims) & a sponsored bar by Aqua Panna & S. Pellegrino.

This award is dedicated to every fat little girl out there that is thinking that her size is a reflection of who she will become! It is dedicated to every woman, that thought that her intellect should be defined by the size of her jeans. It is for every woman that dares to break society stereotype of what “Beauty” is.

I was really happy to see some of my Caribbean sisters show up on my screen, on that particular Saturday. It was an unforgettable experience.  Stay tuned for video footage and event highlights in the coming days.
